How to List an NFT for Sale: Step by Step
Listing an NFT for sale is two transactions of admin before the listing itself — approve the marketplace, then set the price. Here’s the sequence on every major venue.
1. Connect the wallet that holds the NFT#
Open the marketplace → connect wallet → make sure you’re on the right chain (Ethereum, Solana, etc.) and the right account. The NFT must be in the connected wallet — check it’s actually there on the explorer first if it isn’t showing.
2. One-time collection approval#
The first time you sell from a collection on a marketplace, you approve the marketplace’s contract to transfer that collection’s NFTs. This is a gas-costing on-chain transaction — once per collection per marketplace, not per listing. It’s the approval covered in our guides to marketplace mechanics; on genuine venues it’s routine, but always verify you’re on the real site’s domain before signing.
3. Set the listing terms#
- Fixed price — the common mode: name your price, listing goes live after you sign (usually gasless — the marketplace posts your signed listing).
- Auction / timed — where offered: reserve price + duration, bids come to you.
- Duration — listings expire; most venues default to 30 days or let you choose.
4. Check the cost preview#
Before signing, the venue shows your net: price minus marketplace fee minus creator royalty. Compare that net against the fee guide — a 2% fee plus a 7.5% royalty is a very different net than a 0% + 0.5% venue.
5. Verify the listing’s live#
After signing, find your item on the marketplace — the listed price should show publicly. Check it from a logged-out or second browser: if it shows, it’s live.
Bottom line#
Approve the collection once, list at a checked net, verify it went live. The choosing guide covers which venue to list on.
